Afro-Brazilian Drum Circle

Led by Percussionist and Composer Nick Birmelin

Teens and Adults

Learn the proper hand technique to play congas (or atabaque) and work toward developing a sense of how multiple parts work together to construct different Afro-Brazilian rhythms with roots in Congo and Angola. Other percussive instruments such as the Agogo (Bell) and Caixixi (Shakers) will be introduced and we will learn their function and importance to the music. A limited amount of drums are available to play, but you are encouraged to bring a drum if you have one.

$15 per person with your own drum; Add $5 to borrow a drum
