Sunnyside Plays was founded by Ed Kim and Vanessa Quinn, parents and longtime residents of the vibrant Sunnyside/Woodside community. Having a baby who quickly turned into a toddler and then grew into little girl is their inspiration for creating Sunnyside Plays. We all know that a growing child means a commitment to keeping them engaged and active, whatever the age or stage of development. Kids need to play in a safe and stimulating environment where their creativity is nurtured. Parents need time to enjoy their children and not have to worry about cleaning up the mess later. We all need time to play!
Ed and Vanessa are both arts professionals with backgrounds in cultural institutions and visual arts education. Sunnyside Plays finds its niche in offering high-quality arts programming: music, theater, dance, literature, and visual arts. It has long been documented that artistic expression has a positive impact on learning in young children, serving to enhance cognitive development, fine motor skills, problem solving ability and personal confidence. As such, art-making and encouragement of creative exploration are central to the offerings of Sunnyside Plays.
Our space has been designed with maximum flexibility in mind. It can be quickly transformed from a bustling indoor playground to an elegant evening affair – and back again. The chameleon nature of Sunnyside Plays serves to extend the theme of ‘play’ to a broader demographic as an event space not only for children’s parties, but for celebrations, meetings and events of all sorts.
We look forward to welcoming you and your family to Sunnyside Plays – come in and play!
